NEW OUT MARCH 2024 A hand-drawn map guide to walking the 50-mile long distance route around the beautiful borough of Calderdale.

This is a beautiful map guide to exploring the landscape around Haworth, which straddles a series of fine hillsides around the Worth, Sladen and Bridgehouse valleys. There is far more to the area’s history than its famous Brontë connections and this guide provides a wealth of information about the mills, bridges, rivers, dams and rich wildlife to be discovered.

Inspired by the real-life story of the Cragg Vale Coiners this route takes in several key locations that feature in the acclaimed novel The Gallows Pole, which charts the rise and fall of ‘King’ David Hartley and an 18th century criminal enterprise that rocked the national economy.

This delightful 23.5 miles route runs the length of Calderdale between the railway stations in Brighouse and Walsden. It tracks a beautifully wooded line up the Calder Valley, passing through Elland Park, North Dean, Brearley, Horsehold, Burnt Acres and Dobroyd Woods among many others.

Inspired by the life of Anne Lister, this 5½-mile walk explores the beautiful valley of Shibden Dale around her home of Shibden Hall near Halifax. The route takes in many sites around her former estate that played important parts in her fascinating life. The route can be started at either Shibden Hall or Halifax railway station.
